Historical Analysis for Defence and Security Symposia

For over 30 years, UK MoD has commissioned analysis of historical campaigns and developments in the academic understanding of conflict to provide a useful 'reality check' to UK defence policy. Since 2008, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory's Historical Analysis Team has run an annual symposium involving participation from across the defence sector and academia, including international participation from the US and Canada. The aim of this symposium is to bring together historians, analysts and policy makers to discuss the use of historical events to understand topical and enduring defence and security issues.

In recent years, the Historical Analysis for Defence and Security Symposium has collaborated with ISMOR to make presentations available to a wider audience after the event.  Accordingly, downloadable copies of most of the the presentations are now available for the following symposia:
